When do Arowana sleep?

Hi,

Kids have a great skill of asking the obvious. My five year old nephew who has been closely observiing the Aro and its tank mate, raised a very cool question which got me thinking. "When does the Arowana sleep?"

The monster is seen constantly swimming during the day and night. I have seen him yawn in the afternoons; but that's about it. The moments the lights go off, his nocturnal side kicks in and is very active. What is the their sleep behaviour? Do they ever sit still .. it will be 12 months in a few weeks and I have never seen him still.

Best I can figure is these are fish that sleep while swimming. Or may not sleep at all.

i noticed with my black aro, he'll swim away from me during the day and stay on the opposite side of the tank but at night he just keeps swimming back and forth regardless if im near the tank or not

my aro does not sleep. when i come home (pitch dark) and turn on the lights i see him swimming towards me ready for his meal. my chiclids on the other hand are all at the bottom confused and pale. takes them 30minutes to wake up.

im sure most fish dont have eye lids.. i assume they do what most animals do to to get energy by moveing as little as possible at certain times

yeah I think so too, maybe they produce a thin membrane surround their eyes like most of fish does and swimming while sleeping!

I on the other hand dont think they sleep I was awake all day and night 24 hours one day last year looking at my aro all night and day and playing call of duty and didnt see my aro sleep at all lol so I dont think that they will ever sleep
