When do Dovii's start to get real aggressive?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would love for this to be a male, It's only 4" so I'm not positive but a lot of people say female and a few people say male. I dunno. I was mainly going from the lack of the hump on the forehead so far. I'll see if I can snap some better pics although I guess time will tell.

Ok, here are a few pics maybe you can tell from these.. hard to snap pics as it loves to hide..

BTW.. ignore the fish poop, they always choose to go right before their pics :D

that fish is a female. Males have black spots on all individual scales. Females keep the almost solid black stripe with solid black splotching. Also Males will have a solid black stripe but there is always spotting on the scales. There is more blue tones in the fins an their bodies aren't near as yellow on it body. Males also are not as girthy. I am looking at my pair as I type.

As to when they get fiesty: my female is about 8" and the male is about the same. The male rules my 220. Pretty agressive. It wasn't like he "just got agressive". It was a slow process, and even now, he just minds his territory. I have the a breeding pair of Jags, a Red Terror, Buttikoferi, and a baby Red devil. All the fish are about 7-8" and the Dovii rule the tank. Been that way since they were all 3".

was reffering to the fish on page 1 page 2 is a male.

Female for sure.

As for shyness, is there a lot of traffic walking by the tank? IE Frequent walking can promote hiding. Try dropping in a few .75" fish and see if she eats them, do it regualry to see if she comes out. Feeder shrimps will get her juices going.
