Female for sure.

As for shyness, is there a lot of traffic walking by the tank? IE Frequent walking can promote hiding. Try dropping in a few .75" fish and see if she eats them, do it regualry to see if she comes out. Feeder shrimps will get her juices going.

It starting to come out a little bit more, usually if the lights are dim though. I've put rosies in with it before and it devours them.

I think it's a male too, been looking at a lot of the pics of females and they don't seem to have much color aside from the yellow. This little guy is starting to color up fairly nice.

then it is female. The fish on the 2nd page is really washed out. My female is pretty active, and she started pumpin out eggs at about 5". Currently have a batch waiting to hatch. Get a couple small males then a bigger tank. Breeding colors are awesome.

I'm still thinking it's a male now.. I took this pic last night which shows decent color and I think I can see a hump starting to form on the head. Don't know what it should look like so it could just be my imagination..

Well yes you do in fact have a male dovii. Most likely you will know its a male because of the hump forming on its forehead. And of its showing of a greenish/blueish color on its sides of the gills and or on the facial area
