When does an arrow become a senior citizen

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, the story ended yesterday. Though I am sad, I'm glad it's over. He's not suffering any more, and neither am I. Trying to figure out what to do and what was wrong was hell. I only hope I provided him a good life.

I did find a pebble in his "throat" and felt another one (possibly) in his 'gut.' I didn't perform an autopsy and don't plan to. He was approximately 10 years old, all with me, and don't have the heart to do it. I did notice a possibly bloody anus/booty and his dorsal fins were brittle. I took some pics and maybe I'll post. They have some views of the fish most probably never see, specifically of the inside of the mouth.

Thanks again for the support.

Sorry to hear of your loss :(

did he "cough" or make any strange movements before he did the "headstand"? like he was trying to dislodge something?

10yrs issn't that old my jar is 13yrs and still tries to bite me everyday when I walk by the tank. I too have him in a 180g and was raised on cichlid gold but now is on Jumbomin. the only big diffrence between our setups is gravel. you mentioned you found a piece of gravel in him and I have nothing but bare bottoms in all of my tanks. I hope this doesn't deter you from getting another aro.

Sorry to read this, ten years is a long time.
I just change my substrate from big pebbles to gravel as well!!!

Sorry for your loss.
All the BEst for your next venture.
