When is it really "too many pets"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey, as long as someone can take care of (properly) what they have, and they don't cause themselves any issues with their own well-being... it's all good. Once you get to a point where either of those could be compromised, that's the "too much" line.

For me, I've got:

(1) 14g SW tank
(10) FW tanks in varying sizes (crayfish breeding)
(1) Western Hognose
(1) Hypo Boa
(1) Argentine Tegu
(1) Timor Monitor
(1) Savannah Monitor
(1) Torbie (cat)
(6) Crested Geckos
(1) Flame Rose Tarantula
(1) Husband. Yes, he counts. That's the most labor intensive pet I own... ugh, lol

And you could count the animals I have from my rescue, but since they're not my pets I don't count them.

Edit: Oh, and an electric catfish... I keep forgetting about that lil' bastard. And he just shocked me the other day, too.

an adult iguana
a mata mata turtle
3 large fresh water fish
2 adult mangrove snakes (these should count double because they are so fricken difficult to work with)
2 adult eyelash vipers
a texas indigo snake
a FL pine snake
a temple viper
2 sub adult monocled cobras (one albino, one normal)
a beaded lizard
a gaboon viper
a copperhead
3 death stalker scorpions
a Brazilian pink bird eating tarantula
a Tanzanian tailless whip scorpion
a cat

I also live within spitting distance of a zoo and I routinely have people coming to my house to see my collection as opposed to going to the zoo since I have about 3x the reptiles that they have (and mine are cooler)

you should charge admission, you'd make a good profit if everyone thinks your better then the local zoo

Well my collection is small but
1 hedgehog named otto
1 russian tortoise named wanda
1 highcolor redfoot tortoise
3X 10 gallon
1X 5 gallon
1X 37 gallon
1X 55 gallon
3X madagascar tomato frogs

IMO too many pets is when you have so many there care begins to suffer, whether it be 3 or 50.
I only have 1.1 Turbo Corns het for amel and a 10 gallon planted.
But I hope to start a small group of fence lizards(or whatever the sceloporus species I find) this spring and Breed some F2 Turbos next year.
Theres a bunch of reptiles and other animals I would love to keep in the futute.

Quarter horse - Flame
Tennessee walker - Navarro
Labrador - Anthony
Dachshund - Chasey Lain
Pittbull - Vinnie
1.2 bunnies (Louie, pictured, Muffin top and Baby Bun B)
3.6.25 crested geckos
1.1 blood pythons (Rorschach and Diablo)
3 aquariums

I've got...

1 300 gallon freshwater tank
1 75 gallon marine tank
2 300 gallon ponds
1 Siberian husky
1 Dalmatian
1 Mixed Breed Dog
1 Burmese Python
3 Boa Constrictors
1 Green Tree Python
1 Blood Python
2 Reticulated Pythons
1 Red Tailed Ratsnake
1 Cornsnake

1 Green Tree Monitor Lizard
1 Golden Speckled Tree Monitor Lizard
1 Savannah monitor lizard
3 Water monitor lizards

I'm going to remember this thread when the boyfriend tries to cut me off! :lol2: That's great you guys! I can't wait to have a zoo of my own! (gotta move out of parent's first......)

I say if you're willing to put in the time and money for them, then there's no problem.

Male beardie (and roach and mealworm colonies to feed him)
