Keep the temp around 78-80. A ray that size will eat one to two full size huge night crawlers per day and be happy. Be patient and slow down, stop making changes to your tank!!!!! Take one worm and chop it into super small peices. I mean really small like 1/8inch long peices. Im sorry to say but your making so many changes your making it hard on the ray. Make sure the water is clean and good and keep it steady, dont be adjusting the temp a bunch. Daily chop up one worm and sit at the tank and watch the ray to see if it eats. Dont try anything else just stick with worms right now. Your just making it harder on the ray, get one food it eats and start at that then you can introduce other stuff for it to learn to eat as food.

I'm not sure but how much is a ray of about 5 inch diameter suppose to eat? I'm not sure if it's starving or not... It tried to eat the red wiggles. I did cut it. But it just spat them out.... I turned up the temperature and removed the uneaten krill. I would prefer not to use black worms anymore as my last batch I had for a different tank had leeches in the mix.

yeah, i may have tried to start a bit too early on the food variety. I will hold off on the red wigglers and stuck to blackworms and blood worms for a week. she actually just injured herself eating... she got her disc caught on some driftwood... but i dont want to remove it cause she likes to burrow under sand under that piece of driftwood.

Get her eating on whatever she will take, earthworms and market shrimp they will hardly ever turn down. Let the ray put on some weight and grow a little bit, eating whatever it is that she will eat. The more varied the diet the better but just get her eating something. Once it is feeding and has some weight on it, try feeding it some pellets, at first it may not take them, but if it starts to chew on it you are making progress. You can also try to hide small pieces of pellets in the worms and shrimp, its a pain in the neck but helps eventually get the ray to take them.
i tried the worms and shrimp and krill, no luck. just blackworms and bloodworms. i bought them in bulk this morning. i measured it out, she eats about 2 full cubes. she seems to be picky... i feel like it may help when i get the male ray.. but that will have to wait as 2 rays in a 40 gallon are too small. i'll have to wait until she goes into the 300 gallon.

Is this your first ray? It doesn't matter what you prefer not to do its about getting it to eat. I picked the leaches out.of my blackworms. And I think they are planaria worms? Anyways if you have to, get ghost shrimp, goldfish, blackworms etc. Just get it eating good on anything it will take. When the eat a bunch you will see a bulge in there butt area.

yes this is my first ray. she eats bloodworms and blackworms fine this morning. but prefers the bloodworms over the black. as for ghost shrimp she doesnt seem to like them as she just bites the head off and leaves the rest... i will definitely not use feeders, if i must i will use fish fillets and silversides.

Young rays supposed to eat 3 solid times a day. Ray missing 1 day of feeding = somethings wrong. Post a pic, and also test your water with a kit (not strips) and post readings. Might as well post a pic of the tank too, tbh I think he'd to much bigger in the 300.

I'm not sure if that is really correct as I have researched a lot and not 1 source tells me 3 times a day. And as for the 300 it isn't ready yet as it's still cycling. My water in the 40 is fine, luckily no ammonia, and no nitrites. Just nitrate. I do daily water changes to compensate for the small space.

By far the most important thing is water quality. Rays can go for quite some time with out food, even though they should be fed daily. As long as your ray is eating, you will be in good shape and eventually she will start eating other foods. Just make sure you have great water conditions and that they don't fluctuate quickly and your ray will be happy.

Of course. If I have time tonight picture will be posted. She didn't eat a lot today. Though still active, and not lethargic... She may just like to graze rather than eat a lot

as you can see she is really skinny... im not sure if thats because she only grazes but she doesnt always eat like the video...

She doesn't look that skinny at all. She looks pretty good. You need to cover that heater immediately! You don't want her getting burnt. You can make one out of pvc and just drill a bunch of holes in it.
