Sorry you lost yours. :(

This guy was a rescue on deaths door when I found him in Feb. He was so emaciated, I though his head and eyes were deformed. I got him all healthy, fat, growing like a weed, and looking great. Then she had to go and do this. I was really proud of how awesome he was doing. I'll be sad if I lose him after bringing him so far.

keep your head up and just keep doing what you are doing. Nothing more anyone would ever be able to do. they are hardy fish and he might just pull through!

Don't worry about the pain, it may look bad, but fish don't feel pain in the way that we do. Which is why he's still able to stay upright and swim.

I think they feel the pain, I just don't think they worry about the pain as much as we do.

Yes, they feel the pain, but they don't feel it like we do. There has been numerous studies about this on fish. They can tell that it's there and all, but it's not necessarily painful for them.

While I'm not sure how we can actually quantify that, I sure hope you're right.

It's based upon their nervous system and the complexity of it (not very complex.)

Wow, that's so horrible to see... must be painful for you everything you see him swimming. Hopefully your fish pulls through. Fishes get in battles all the time in the wild and they recover lots of times. The injury looks pretty deep, though. Ferocious catfish. :/

I've seen some fish with large gouges and the like actually pulled out and had neosporin applied to their wounds, but I think you're right in this case. With the amount of damage, there's probably a better chance of infecting him, or sending him into shock, than you'd likely help with applying something.

Best of luck to you and him!
