I guess I just usually reserve that word for humans who do stuff just to harm and torture others for the fun of it, and do it will the understanding of what that other person is feeling. So given how I define that word, I cannot assign it to a fish who is just looking for a meal.

I wan't trying to create any offense. I'm in awe of your impressive TSN. That's all.

I know a lot of people throw the word nasty around here for any fish that is aggressive and territorial, and its often a compliment. I just personally use that word for something much darker and foul, so I guess I have to say its hard for me hear that word assigned to my girl. I don't think you meant it to be offensive. You just chose a word choice that carries a different meaning for me than you, and managed to say it to an over protective "mother." :D

I'm glad that's cleared up. Again, I'm sorry you lost your ID shark.

soory to hear of the loss
reading the thread i thought he would pull through
i guess its something we all have to go through no matter what
ive had to put down like 3 last month
and a few were favorites

Sorry to hear you've lost so many this month. It's been a rough month here as well. The ID one one of 3 different fish dying for completely unrelated causes. I can say only 1 was paritally my fault. A heat wave hit, and I was not prepared for it, and lost a huge royal pleco. The others were either sick from hexamita which I have been battling for years with this particular fish. I guess when you have around 150 fairly sensitve fish, you're risk for losing stuff goes up.

Yup. Big kitties are predators capable of opening super wide and stuffing themselves insanely full. It's part of their charm. Without that ability, they wouldn't be so cool.

You know, I don't hold it against her at all. She is what she is supposed to be. I took her out of her natural habitat (sort of as she was another rescue) and would be foolish to expect her to be anything different. She doesn't do it out of malice or hate, nor does she even do it out of territorial aggression. She merely is programmed to hunt and eat, and so she does. Do I think her choice of food was a little off, yeah. Do I wish she hadn't done this, yes. Do I still walk by the tank and not view her any differently, yes (except that now I tell her she was a bad fishies with a little bit of a baby talk tone in my voice.) I know and understand the nature of the animals I brought home. Being angry with her would only be a lack of true understanding of these predators.

I completely understand and feel the same, and did the same to my achara cat who ate a couple hundred dollars worth of fish last year...wasn't necessarily the price attached, but how much I liked them and for how long....I just went thru this last tuesday where my achara x tsn ate a few fishies for the first time. 3 fish I had to special tend to as their fins were eaten off in attempts to grab and swallow....the one eaten was real fat, couldn't believe it fit in his mouth...but I did the same thing...shook my finger at the cats and scorned them. Thank god we love those big cats so dang much

I am sorry to hear about all of this with your ID. That is devastating. You did all you could, more than some would've. Your tsn has herself a great mamma....
