im trying to decide what i want to do with the mom ray after she drops her pups. i just set up a 120 gallon 4'X2' floor space that is connected to the main system. the 120 will have the same exact water as the original tank she was in. i dont know if after she gives birth i should leave her in with her pups or take her out and put her back into the main system.

this will be her first litter and i dont know if its the best idea to let her get knocked up right away again. i dont have anywhere else to put her. my only options are to leave her with the pups or throw her back in with the lions.

IME you can just add the female back into your main system after she pops. Even if she gets knocked up right away, it won't do much harm since she's only had one litter. I would give the female a couple months break after 2-3 litters though.

id never leave a mom stingray with its pups period in my case anyways

i will always have a main tank, male tank, and a pup tank.

the only problem u might have is the males beating her up very badly once u add her back to the main tank. then u would need to transfer her again to let her heal...

each ray is different i have left the pups in with the adult males and females with no problem

i have also made a egg crate cage and put it over the pups again no problem

i have always thought it was a bad idea to move rays around its best to keep them in the same tank water all the time even preg females

i too have left the pups in the main tank with the female only and had no problems. but my male was a different story, he got so excited as soon as the female gave birth he was biting on everything that smelled like the female, including the pups.

T1 do you have a better picture of your eggcrate divider that you tied together for your pups?

thats the only pic i have of the cage its very easy to make

get 4-5 sheets of the large egg crate i think they are 18 inch x 28 inch then just make a box out of them leaving the bottom part open if you want to put the cage in the middle of the tank

if you want to put the cage up against the front tank glass then leave the bottom and 1 side of the cage open and put it up against the front glass i found this better as you could see the pups better to make sure they were feeding

then tie all the bits together with cable ties put the cage in the tank and put big rocks on the top of the cage and around the sides to keep it in place

its also a good idea to put a power head in the cage at the bottom but turn it off and turn it on after feeding to blow any left over food out which the adults should eat

it works great :D
