I had quit for 2 months. And felt so much better for it. I did it for cash. I pay just over $10 a pack. When I add that up and think of all the other things I could be doing with that money...like taking the flying lessons I've wanted but always put off.
The cig money will go towards the Fun Fund. Anything that I don't need, but want.
But we've had a bit of restructuring at work and surprise layoffs. My job is safe so I'm not smoking out of worry. Surprisingly enough, I'm the guy people vent to. When they want hugs, they get them from a nice person. When they want reality, they ask me.
There is not much work getting done, since most don't care anymore. All day long it's "Let's go for a smoke." Which means "I need to talk." So I go talk with some stressed out dude who is handing me a cigarette. And I take it. Because whatever we are going to talk about goes down better with a smoke in my hand.
Now I'm back in the saddle and paying to smoke on my own time.
The bad news is, rather then give everyone a cash payout, they are doing a "working severance". Where in lieu of so much money for so much time worked, they get so much notice before termination. So there are allot of long term employees hanging around wondering what they are going to do. Now that they are approaching 50 and will be starting over, God knows where.
The good news is, there is only a month and a half to go before all the worried smokers are gone.
Then I'll try again.
Ultralight training is around $60/hr, with instructor. So if I knock off a pack a day, I'll get to fly for 1 hr on weekends.
