can you see your floorboards at all? joists will run in the opposite direction to them.

reinforcing the joists is easily done. just take up the floor boards and bolt 2x6's to the joistd and put noggins in between. BUT... alot depends on how well the joists are secured in the wall.

i do have a bath upstairs and its right on the other side of my room. i can see the floor boards (i pulled up a few pieces of carpet to see the condition of them a few months earlier when i first got the idea) the floor boards are in good condition so if i had to guess the joists are in the same condition. i think putting it catty corner to the two walls that go outside will be the safest bet. thanks for the reassurance i can see a 125 in the near future.

Hello; Here is the web address of an article that talks about the structure issue.

http://badmanstropicalfish.com/articles/article28.html

Something to bear in mind is that the struture is supporting the load of all the things placed on the floor. I ususlly figgure up to 12 pounds per gallon for tanks of 100 gallon capacity or more with stand, substrate and all. It could be more. You mention already having a number of other tanks in place, so the weight of these, the bathroom and whatever else you may have in that area will need to be considered.

That you already have some movement in the floor enough to cause waves in a tank does not sound promising. If you own the place, then you are free to take whatever chances you are comfortable with. If renting or living with family, then there likely should be some consideration given for the financial consequences and possible eviction issues that can arise.

While sistering in extra floor joists can be done, I found it to not be very easy when I last did it. I had fairly good access to the floor from underneath in a full height unfinished basement area and it was still quite a chore. It is an effective method to increase the load capacity of a floor.

Adding structure to a floor system or trying to estimate how much load a floor can take is an area where it pays to have some knowledge of what you are about. Getting it wrong can be potentially very expensive along with losing tanks and fish among other things.
Good luck
