Black pacu are a little more difficult to find because they're not pond cultivated like the red belly pacu. You just have to keep your eyes peeled for the occassional black pacu that may become available from the few S.A. direct importers.

Thank You! Finally someone answers my question! And of course it's a mod because they know how to answer people. I am only keeping the black pacu for awhile then after that I know someone with a huge pond that I am giving it to.

If you are not going to answer my question please don't answer.

your not going to get any love on here for putting such a huge fish in a tiny tank. i mean really, how about we stuff you into a little tiny room all day, and see how you enjoy it?

do you realize that a black pacu WILL reach over 3 feet in length, and could weigh 70-90+ pounds, do you know they can and will eat a pound of food EACH AND EVERYDAY. dont feed them enough, they will start eating decorations and wires and anything they can. chances are they will do it anyway

really, im so sick of posters who ask for advice, and when they get advice they dont want to hear, or told its not a good idea, they get all pissy. grow up kiddo, and learn fish are living breathing creatures that need the best care, not to be stuffed into a tiny tank by some irresponsible collectors who refuse to listen to people who know more than them, and are only trying to help.

you have a home for it in a big pond you say?? so did 90% of the other people who bought such a big fish, and suddenly that home disappears when the fish is 2ft long and still growing

I completely agree with you but the OP was not getting an answer to his question so i could understand why he got mad. There are many places that sell them online and can be delivered to your door, i know of one in New jersey which probably has a few small ones but are rather expensive. Here is a article from your area maybe you can find them swimming in your lake and killdog you need to understand this is why ikeeppacu is wanting to prevent
Black Pacu Too Big To Ignore In Florida .

i see alot of pretty big ones in cali sad thing is they are all kept in super tiny tanks around 50 gallons =/

Wow guys so much for helping the poor guy. He asked a simple question, he didn't state the size of the tank so who knows how big it is. Obviously he's responsible enough to know that the larger black pacu at his lfs was to big to be properly cared for in his tank, so therefore he didn't purchase it! He also stated he wanted a smaller sized one and that when it gets too big he's putting it in a big pond!! To the OP, my lfs in saint cloud fl used to carry them, unfortunately the went out of business!

hey hey dont blame on us for not help him out. I mean he just dont have a proper tank to house a fullgrown black pacu. And you dont know that if the owner of the pond will let OP to release the pacu into it. Whats point to get a black pacu then give it away in few months? Now to OP what is your tank size? And how big is the black pacu that you saw in the LFS?

A better question would be.,... in the OP's other thread he says he got a black pacu for $5 but is refusing to post pictures of it. And now he's bumping this thread?

So that begs the question, how many ginormous fish are you planning to put in this tank you have already said won't hold one adult pacu?

If you are to be beleived, you already have a red bellied, just bought a black one and are now bumping a thread to try and buy another black to put into a tank that as is by your admission, too small.
