Where have the WC Kelberi gone?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi there, I live in Taipei, Taiwan and there are a lot of Cichla on sale here at the moment, best quality bred kelberi go for around 10,000NTD - around 300 USD, run of mill kels go for half that, and they are usually sold at 8 inches when the spangling is really starting to show. The odd thing there are also wild kels, but they won't sell to me. I have an order for one [tank is kind of full already] but I'm not holding my breath at actually getting one.

I have found one for $129 plus shipping cost 6-8 but iam waiting on a pick...

After the flood that just hit Brazil it's going to be an even longer wait then any of anticipated. But Some of those locked tributary's just got mixed in with some main river system's. This will be interesting in the coming years to see how this play's out.

Think of it this way....

Now that there are breeding size Kelberi's in Asia/Japan.. why demand for any wilds when you can make money from F1's....It's all about making money. He who get's the early worm get's the ***** in the backseat... is that how it goes? ....HAHA.... but really, it's a controlling market. Doesn't matter what we want in the states, it's the others that matter unfortunately.

Also, why want a wild when F1's are the best thing next to wilds? no parasites from being imported, born and raised in captive waters. I think whereas you'll start seeing problems with appearance, color, is when they eventually are inbred with the sister, brother, father, mother because there is no new gene to mix. The faith of the Kelberi will presumably be like the Monos that we see are captive, but the ones currently available I feel is/should be as nice as the wild.

Just my random thought...

I might be mistaken but i am pretty sure Shark Aquarium on rt 22 in hillside has kelberi pups for 200.

Exactly! People were out right crying about the price. I know I was  because Ilost all of them, but I will grab the right F1's in a Heart beat and the key words here is "RIGHT ONES". :naughty:

This is the mood I was in as I started this thread. I fear that the WC Kelberi of the past may have numbered days :( . I'm just looking to get my hands on a few nice WC because, while Bahias are beautiful, they pale in comparison to a 24k Ceara :drool::drool:

Definetly get those pics! One of my Rapps 3rd batch turned into the nicest Kelberi I've ever had the pleasure of keeping.

So Rapps has Bahias minis for 150 a piece. No brainer if you want them.

:grinno: Thinking about yours
