Where I disagree with the common filtration practices.

I clean my fx5 filters with tap water and bleach the filter socks and rinse well. The baby guppies and other feeder guppies don't die so it can't be bad they live in the sump with the filter sock. Oh and one fresh water lion fish that eats the guppies.

I used to use bleach on my filter socks untill I ran out one day and tried it without it and it came out just as clean so now I just throw it in the washer and clean with hot water only.

I don't. I tried a few times, but didn't see the need. Bleach doesn't clean the debris out of filter socks, that's what the washing action is for. Bleach just makes them look pretty :)

The only times I had to clean bio media a lot was when using canister filters, since those suck for mechanical filtration and the bio media gets gunked up. In my sumps, once a year, if that. With 10 micron filter socks, my sump is pretty spotless.

I actually have to rinse my bio media off every few months, but that's why I run three canisters. The mech always gets rinsed off pretty throughly with hot water and replaced as needed. Every third or fourth time I maintnance a filter I'll also pull out the bio media and give it a good rinse and squeeze in a bucketfull of tank water. I'll also never service more than one filter a week so there is always time for any lost BB to catch up before I clean another one.

I wash filter & media with a garden hose. Everything else is a hype. The BB are more robust to tap water than people think. Bleaching is insanely unnecessary.
