Mines kept going in the hob for about 4 weeks until I finally removed it and put a canister. If you find your eel going in there again then it is likely making itself a home there. You can lower your water level so it can't get up there, block it with a screen or change to a canister.

i will block it, i have a marineland c-530* and a ac110 running and they keep my water very clear. would hate to lose one of my sources of filtration.

just found it in there again, i tried to get it out and it fell on the floor. but got it right in the tank. i blocked the entrance with some filter pads. hopefully this will help.
