Where should I put seeded material ???

... Read the thread I posted about them. Take in the knowledge and if you still feel that way then your just denying good results.

:iagree:

By the way, if you squeeze out the sponge in the tank, the BB will go everywhere. It will seed everything all at once. Then drop the sponge in the hob to keep water flowing through it.

Plenty of fishies in there its cycled now :)

If it's already cycled, why are you adding filter media from other tanks?

Also- the 2215 shouldn't be an issue to tear apart. I opened my 2217 after it had been running for a week or so, to add some purigen, and didn't have any problem with it. It took me about 30 seconds to restart. I actually backflushed it out, and was AMAZED at the amount of crud in it after only a week. I restarted it, it spit some air out and ran a bit loud, i unplugged it & gave it a little shake to help work some air loose, and plugged it back in and it's running perfectly fine. If you have the quick disconnect valves, it shouldn't be an issue at all to get it started up again.

But, I agree with Chompers- squeeze it out into the tank, then drop it in the HOB. Even if the HOB is primarily for mechanical, if you can get it seeded with bacteria now, it'll help a cycle along. And, you can't pick what in the tank does and doesn't grow BB- it's on EVERYTHING. You'll find it on gravel, decorations, driftwood, glass, and every bit of filter touching water (including the insides of your inflow & outflow tubes). So, there's going to be BB in your HOB either way, and every time you clean it, you are going to kill some BB. Providing enough other places for BB to grow should be enough that it shouldn't make much of an impact on anything, though.

I cycled it using some seeded lava rocks and this bio fiber. Even seeded cycling takes time. Its only been up a month and it just stabilized so there is no good logic for me to take it out right when the tanks stabilized. And as far as opening the canister I opened it twice already once to remove the carbon pad and once to fix a small leak on my tap valves. I was just being lazy I could open it and put it in there but like you guys said BB will grow everywhere so I don't see a point in opening the canister anymore :)

Its great having you around chompers :) The nerd herd has my back on the UGF

if the tanks is 23 days old i dont understand why your adding bb to it you could just be causing a problem to much bb and they will die off and cause spikes in your water quality

Ughh the beneficial bacteria has been there since day 1(seeded material) in the form of lava rocks. It was not until recently that I added this seed to help it along it cant hurt the cycle lol I was curious if there was a better spot than in my HOB for my seeded material. I didnt ask if you thought there was any fault in my logic :screwy: I realize there is no point in seeding a cycled tank. But how do you think I cycled that quick to begin with I do what I can its from a clean tank and I added it because it had just finished cycling that day and I added two fish (from the tank with the filter floss) so I added a little bacteria to help the transition.

i dint say you had faulted logic i was just lost as to why. i know that if you add to much bb they wont have any food and will die and it can cause another cycle

just my .02
