Can you put a nail in the coffin about this "saltwater bath" being some kind of miracle cure? The sooner someone knowledgable expells this myth the better off the rays that may be subjected to this will be.
I've never personally been a fan of salt dipping FW rays.
I do the opposite - I always FW dip my saltwater rays. But the processes effected by each are vastly different.
I will say this, over the past three months, I've gone outside my 'normal' routines when it comes to rays. I've done things I normally wouldn't personally do, and have done things that I went into saying "This won't work at all" - and then saw them work before my own eyes. I don't understand what does and doesn't work sometimes. I write it off to luck of the draw sometimes, and prefer to stick to the 'normal' conservative methods when it comes to elasmobranch care.

I've used FW dips for saltwater fish as well. Its proven effective. But I've never heard of or talked to an experienced FW raykeeper that has said these SW dips would do anything in terms of curing disease such as internal parasites. I think the whole idea of SW dips for FW rays makes about as much sense as washing my dishes with water then rinsing them with soap.
thanks zoo diver i think that the method of my salt bath is a little crazy too but it worked for me 3 times.every body on here has probably read dr.ross freshwater ray book! inside this book he explains that short exposure to high salinity levels are ok for rays. he even states that a prolonged exposure to lower level of salinity could be more fatal than a short exposure of higher levels.
I kinda skimmed over the posts but i dont think anyone has suggested Metro as a treatment for internal parasites, i'm not sure if its ray safe but with my discus i was quite successful in using it along with prazipro pretty much my own mix of API General Cure except i was incharge of individual dosing. With metro, treat every 24 hr and about 250mg per 10g, although i would feel comfortable doing 250 mg/10g every 12 hours since it completely disappears after 8 hours. You can also dose it in the food, although i've never done that so you'll have to research it. Also, again not sure if its ray safe but finding a food that contains Fendendazole will also work, you can dose it yourself but its risky. HTH
