Then that may mean that they are no longer allowed in the states.

True, or it might mean that the legal hassle that one has to go through isn't worth it. They're regulated in order to prevent the spread of SVC and must be tested by an approved vet before they can leave their port of entry. These regulations also govern the importation of koi and goldfish, so they must not be that stringent.

Of course then, it's also possible that their countries of origin may not be exporting them any more despite having farming operations that take pressure off of the wild populations.

There you go...I do remember the ones that Jeff Rapps had were pricey, around one hundred dollars each.

They are an invasive species all over Europe so they are next to impossible to export ( so I have heard).

I guess the vendors here that did bring them in didn't get that memo.

You need a special license to own one in a lot of Europe. I have no idea what the laws are in the states. It wouldn't surprise me if they were exported from Spain because they are an invasive species there. ( Yet you have to catch and release them if you get one on your line?)

Thank you all for finding all of this out and I guess getting one of these guys is going to take a lot more than I though. Even though I still think its worth it even if I have to do some traveling or legal work mainly because I love traveling. I guess some time in the future I'll start a thread saying if there really is any chance of getting one of these in the US or not. Again thank you all so much.

hey if you do end up getting one youll have to throw up some pictures of him when hes small and i use the word lightly..

My question is if you could get a hold of them and grow them out, how would you go about feeding them in that lake of yours? Plus would you really be able to see them?
