Just wanted to post a little better shot of the female RedIsletas. You can see kind of a reddish glow in her body compared to the males silvery gray. The males reddish color is mainly in the face. They have a great personality, real curious in nature. The male is a glass banger.RedIsletasPair2.jpg

I vote with Rmac; "Red Isletas" are great.
I also have a pair from Rapps my male is about 8"
and female is about 6". They are still "dating" and haven't spawned yet
but I think they are getting closer. (see pics below)
Good luck with your choice, doesn't really matter which you choose, I'm sure you will be happy with any Amphs you get from Rapps, his fish are top notch.
Is that a beani in your avatar?
I have 4 beani's from Rapps as well, toughest little cichlids I have ever had the pleasure of caring for. They are only about 2" and they are already full of attitude.

How long have you had him? My male was a bit shy as well when I first got him.

2 months now I tried adding Convicts, Tinfoil barbs, and plecos to get him more comfortable but still no used, whenever I walk in room he runs and hide.

Apart from that, I would strongly recommend Amarillo just because they have, depending on the source, more yellow color in their body. In a side by side comparison, Amarillo would, I think, beat any other "barred" type Midas.

A single fish and chancho might also be an option, though pair is difficult to keep because of the large disparity in sizes of adults of either sex.

Trimac or lyonsi would be my first choice. Then either chancho or amarillo.

I still refuse to vote based on the lack of Trimac!!!

But I thought I would add... I got a few small Chancos and a few small citrinellus (both orange and barred) at the same time and at the same size... I know the Chanco will eventually get bigger, but mine were very slow growing and not nearly as active/aggressive as my citrinellus... Scored both sets of juvis DIRT cheap at a local auction from Ken Davis.

From what I was told this is normal (Note: the behavior not the buy)...

Personally, I like Amphilophus xiloaensis..have 4 of them and they are starting to color up at approx 4" or so.

Out of your list I chose A. saggitae (colored) because I personally like the colored better than barred. I especially like the saggitae and xiloaensis because of the variety in color patterns and I prefer xilo's because their body shape is closer to that of a midas in that they are the stockier of the 2.

However if you definitely want to go barred then I'd do amarillo. :)
