my bad. i do really like chancho.balton777;3086234; said:Since you didn't list Trimaculatus, I picked Chancho....(but you accidently spelled it wrong). It was a tough choice between that or a barred midas.
very nice fish, also one of my fav's!LowCel;3086253; said:Mine is still just a little guy but here he is.

Always liked them.
thanks for you opinion!cchhcc;3086490; said:Hmmmm...... Tough one!
I think LowCel and I have the same taste. That strain of amarillo is just awesome, and the fact that their colors change so dramatically during breeding is cool. They look like Bumblebees!
there nice but not top of my wanted list at the mo.nc_nutcase;3086597; said:I was too heart broken to vote...

because I was all ready to vote Trimac...
buetiful fish!RMac;3086648; said:I would choose probably between the Amarillos and the RedIsletas. I've got some small Amarillos, and a breeding pair of the Isletas... male is about 6" and the female is 4 to 4 1/2". Attached a photo of the RedIsletas I just took tonight, but the angle was downwards and the glass kind of distorts their appearance. This pair came from Rapps.

buetiful pair!RMac;3086704; said:Just wanted to post a little better shot of the female RedIsletas. You can see kind of a reddish glow in her body compared to the males silvery gray. The males reddish color is mainly in the face. They have a great personality, real curious in nature. The male is a glass banger.View attachment 360544
Mad About Cichlids;3086732; said:Amphilophus sagittae 'COLOURED' just because it's on my wanted list.
Have Midas and "Red Isletas" and love'em both the same.
is that the female in the background?? the smaller one? very nice for a female!toomanyfishes;3086744; said:I vote with Rmac; "Red Isletas" are great.
I also have a pair from Rapps my male is about 8"
and female is about 6". They are still "dating" and haven't spawned yet
but I think they are getting closer. (see pics below)
Good luck with your choice, doesn't really matter which you choose, I'm sure you will be happy with any Amphs you get from Rapps, his fish are top notch.
Is that a beani in your avatar?
I have 4 beani's from Rapps as well, toughest little cichlids I have ever had the pleasure of caring for. They are only about 2" and they are already full of attitude.
beutfiul trimac. ill probably get one for my community!TheOscarGuy;3086880; said:Mee too

Apart from that, I would strongly recommend Amarillo just because they have, depending on the source, more yellow color in their body. In a side by side comparison, Amarillo would, I think, beat any other "barred" type Midas.
A single fish and chancho might also be an option, though pair is difficult to keep because of the large disparity in sizes of adults of either sex.
got pics of ure xilo's?? never seen much of them!Jason_S;3088237; said:Personally, I like Amphilophus xiloaensis..have 4 of them and they are starting to color up at approx 4" or so.
Out of your list I chose A. saggitae (colored) because I personally like the colored better than barred. I especially like the saggitae and xiloaensis because of the variety in color patterns and I prefer xilo's because their body shape is closer to that of a midas in that they are the stockier of the 2.
However if you definitely want to go barred then I'd do amarillo.![]()
