in your mind's eye
after being at mfk for a while, i want to up my monster game. unfortunately, i don't have the space or wife to let me upgrade my tank

i've read that you should have at least a 30" wide tank to keep an arowana. others say that's a bunch of malarkey and that my 220 gallon 6'x2'x30' tank would be fine.

if i were to say i'm ignoring half the crowds advice and getting an arowana, which one would be the best fit?

i only have access to silver, black, or jardini and i like jardinis the best

maybe if i can figure out what would work with him. i don't have to have tankmates if a jardini claimed the whole tank as his

I asked that because, imo, you will always have to manage what's going on in the tank if you choose a jar. With a black or silver, there will be far fewer problems between them and tank mates.

And if you're fine with only an aro in the tank, that's okay too.

Jardini's are known to dislike their tankmates once this hit 8"+ or so. Not all fish are alike tho....jardini's have been kept in community tanks. Just not that often. Your best bet at making this happen would be to raise the fish together as a community.

then go get one. Out of the 3 aro's you mentioned the jardini will fit your tank the best.

i'm day dreaming of a jardini tank with a couple of bichirs or big armoured type of catfish, maybe a uranoscopus. my crappie are getting boring

X2....Jardini are funny creatures. I have a monster jar in a community tank. It took a lot of work and effort to find tankmates he didn't try to eat or kill. He tolerates some but I have to be carefull with what I put in his tank.

I vote for Jar but in the end it's up to you.
