ALL filters hum, its just how they are, some are louder than others. By no means will I say the Fx5 is quieter than the rest because my 304 is quieter that my Fx5.
When did I say the filter was a GREAT filter in this thread? I NEVER said the Fx5 was crap, I said the design sucks. I still think its a good filter. Not as good as a 2262 though.
Your right, flow is not everything, but you do need circulation in the tank to keep debris suspended long enough for the filter to pick it up. With a lower flow filter, you will spend more energy on installing a power head to do the same work as a stronger filter which consumes less energy.

Haha. So did the Eheim Pro3e replace all other Eheim filters when that came out? I guess those filters really sucked. The 2262 must have replaced all the other filters as well because Eheims flow rates were always MUCH lower than Fluval.
The Fluval G is a completely different series. Its not replacing the Fx5 otherwise the Fx5 would be discontinued just like the 03 and 04 series filters getting replaced by the 05 series.
Ehiem has there lower class non digital filters, Fluval has their lower class non digital filters, Eheim has there digital filter, Fluval has their digital filter, Ehiem has a high flow monster, fluval has a high flow monster....
