Which dithers are most hardy

Gourami's worked for me, when all the regular dithers got boring or failed

giant danios are quite interesting. They swim fast and can be fed pelllets/krills. Very hardy and no one can catch them in a big tank.

Anyone try apollo sharks as dithers? They've worked well with me in a retail setting, but haven't tried them long-term.

I do know some Goodeid breeders has Ameca splendens (Butterfly Splitfin) as dithers in either American/African cichlids tank.

I always thought that dithers were fish that made a fish couple bond quicker and mate earlier

That is why I always introduced my dithers or non cichlid fish first.

I have always used tinfoil barbs, usually 5'' or bigger. I had 3 of them in with my 15'' Festae and they held up fine.

For future reference always introduce dithers before the cichlids.

Ive been using giant danios in my sa/ca tank.... jag ,black belt, JD, RD, uro, bleekeri ,3 convicts , GT, firemouth, Flower horn, texas, and a rainbow, i got 10 danios from petsmart about 5 months ago so far i've lost only one....i tried using silver dollars and barbs they got crushed within a week

Used to use Giant Danios and they;re usually ok when light is on but expect to find some missing if you leave lights off for the night. And I have to agree with Tinfoil barbs being durable dithers and the bioload cause they produce. They usually eat as much if not more than most cichlids do.
