Which dslr to get...

Hey guys, I'ld like to upgrade from my current P&S camera (Canon SX120 IS) to a dslr, but I can't decide which one to get. The two that I am considering right now are the Canon rebel XS and the Nikon D3000. I am kind of leaning toward the Canon due to the ability to use the LCD screen as a viewfinder, b/c I figured it might make the transition from P&S to dslr a little easier, but IDK, what do you all think?

its all personal preference... people are going to say nikon and others are going to be canon. so choose the cam that will suite you better and make the transition easier. both cameras are almost alike.

nikon d3000 without a doubt, i am officially a nikon fanboy, i personally find the viewfiner only to be better, i love my d3000

The problem is, I have no idea which would suit me better since I have no previous experience with dslr's. So far, my only indication of which is better for me is the use of the LCD as a viewfinder w/ the Canon (as stated in the OP), but I don';t want to base a $500 decision off of a single feature. Thanks for your input though.

I'm a nikon guy for sure. But, the best way to feel what you like is to hold the cameras your self.

Ask your self these questions:

What do I want my camera to do for me?
What can I afford?
What kind of pictures am I aiming for?
Do I want a all around camera or a limited one?

But from what I know, I would go for a D60, D40, D5000.

ok. imo, i have a nikon d3000 and its a great camera. used a canon before but never really like the feel of it.

Ask your self these questions:

What do I want my camera to do for me?
What can I afford?
What kind of pictures am I aiming for?
Do I want a all around camera or a limited one?

But from what I know, I would go for a D60, D40, D5000.

Also research cost of lenses for future lens upgrades. As far as I know, D3000, D5000, D40x and D60 require the use of AF-S lenses only. Which can cost quite a bit.

A d5000 is a stripped down version of the D90. Really small upgrades, but really the same camera.
