Which fish are hardy for a noob?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would not add a loricarid (pleco) in for quite some time unless you plan to feed him very well. Plec's do better in aged tanks were they can graze of the ornaments and rocks as well as get a constant supply of food.

3-4 Cory's for the bottom and perhaps a colourful dwarf gourami or two will add plenty of colour.

Swordtail 'sex' is pretty much when the males uses his pointy anal fin (Gonopodium) and tries to inject it into the females 'butt'.

Ah trouble in paradise already! I returned home to find one of the fish trapped between the pump and the back glass... There's like a .5cm gap between the part of the pump that sucks the water in and the back and left side glass (I managed to rescue the little fella (using a chop stick) lol.... So yeah the fish is fine, for a temporary solution, I've filled the gaps up with a cut up scouting pad, looks crap but at least the fish can't get trapped...it will do till the fish grow a little... This has put a spanner in the works regarding keeping things like tetra's etc....

Duke regarding a 55, you guys with your monster tanks have filled my head with all sorts of cool ideas! I have this tank waiting:

I still need a stand, have been searching online and locally but no joy. Am on a tight budget so having to be resourceful, so yeah I've been picking up materials from everywhere, building sites/skips... So I'm hopefully going to start building that tonight if my brother drops some cool tools round.

It's not huge tank, but at least it's not a 'mini tank'. Next stop snakeheadville! lol... ok well not a snake head, but something that would make me feel like I'm keeping a monster :) Maybe a nice cichlid setup mmmmmmmmmm decisions decisions..

Thanks everyone for their tips, advice, encouragement, suggestions etc.

Mac the noob (mfk in the making...hehe)

Looks like you're catching the fish keeping bug/addiction/obsession Pete. :)

Nice new upgrade tank.

AMG...I'm in too deep now, I've seen too much.... lol

As you can see, my room is gradually losing all tabletop/flat surfaces....All I gotta do now is convince my girlfriend that we don't need a tv or any beauty products!!! lol

Got my stand sorted tonight, ignore the props inside it, was just to show my friend the kinda size compartments are etc.... got a nice big space in the middle for an external pump to go.... mmmmmmmmmm gonna set her up tomorrow and get some water in, and start cycling.... (here we go again...lol)

Red Jewel's are great starters and tough as nails...however...except for a bottom dweller or so there's not a lot you can keep with them...Truly 'pocket' monsters...

Ah Wolf, just google'd them and I like them. Will have to fins out if their available in my local pet store.

I was moaning to my friend how boring my pineapple swords are in my mini tank... He told me he's just bred some jaguars and he's offered me some of his fry, there like less then 1cm long but already their stripes are visible...

My swords are like 3cm's long, if I put the jags in taking into account how tiny the jags are, they might live in harmony for a while right? well.... till the jags are big enough to turn my mini tank into an abattoir lol
