Which fish are hardy for a noob?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
only get the jags if you can move them to a 75 (female) or a 125 (male/pair). also, they will only live with the swordtails for, maybe a week or two, cause fry grow fast.

Mmmmmmmmmm I do have a larger tank I'm preparing (check pics I posted earlier) it's not huge maybe 3ft... I'd like to get these jags as tiny fry and watch them grow to adult.... How long would I be looking at for them to go from 1cm to adult?

lol aqua i sense a lot of sarcasm there.... seriously though give it a month and i'll have a monster (or two).... :)

Just to keep you other guys updated on what I've been up to... Filled the new tank up today also planted some live plants in my mini-tank... excuse the crappy footage...

I don't intend any sarcasm at all, any fish that helps you aquire experience and a taste for fishkeeping is a good fish. Once you get a little more acclimated you might want to switch the smaller tank to something like blackbanded or blue spotted sunfish, great little minimonsters that max out at under 4 inches and are very hardy as well as not to expensive.

Peter, I started off the same way. Tiger barbs and red tailed black shark and such in a little 29 gal, then I got a 55 gal for my rainbow wolf and became a bichir addict (5 and counting!) and this weekend I'll be picking up a 150 gal so I can get even more monsters. Welcome to the obsession.
