solomon,

since our Longnose gar started growing very slowly due to a poor diet of live feeders could this have possibly stunted his growth? he dose seem to be growing now that we finally got him on krill and pellets, but he quite literally went 2 months w/ no growth at all.

hey jordan,

that does seem unusual that he was growing slowly, but i wouldn't really worry about it stunting him that badly that early on. in fact, i often times start my very young gars off with feeders (rosies, not goldfish) as it gets them growing pretty quickly early on, i then switch them to shrimp after they are anywhere from 3-5".

i'm sure he will start growing faster for you now, and as long as the diet is healthy, he should be fine. from the pics, he looks like a healthy fish to me--

he seems very healthy to me, but i was concerned about him not having the proper diet in his earlier months. he is now an eating machine...just like the rest of our gar. i am very excited to see this one grow. he is quickly becoming one of our favorites!

solomon...i think you are right. it seems every time i look in the tank at the longnose gar he has grown. this growth does seem even faster than my trop. im very impressed. he has gone from 6" to 9.5" in a little over a week. :)

wow thats fast. my baby gar only has been growing an inch a month and is about 8 inches since i got him at 4 inches in July.

that is our point. which one grows the fastest...aside from the alligator gar. solomon said it was probably the longnose gar and i posted that bit of info to let you guys know that i agree. so far the longnose has had the largest growth spurt out of any of our gar. lets see how long it lasts! :)

good to hear he's growing well for you! i'm sure his growth will continue pretty solidly (depending on feeding, water changes, and temp as well) until he's around 14-16", they then tend to taper off a bit and grow more slowly. of course, even at that length they won't have quite the weight of a t-gar, but their growth in length is quite impressive--
