I'd have to double check my records but I think they were biggerthan that. 19" or so. Still your rtc is bigger.
if my memory is correct the spotted gar belongs to arapaimag here on the site. because last time i was over there he was explaining the difference between the two and had said that his spotted was roughly 45'' long wether that was his own guess or the fishes true size but his FLG where younger and possibly bigger. key words being (biggest one ive ever seen).
Anybody know how to reach arapaimag? I want to ask him a few questions about his big gator gars, but he can't receive pm's.

I've been searching YouTube and I have seen plenty of aquariums with rtc's and gars. I think it looks so cool having some monsters lurking on the bottom and other gliding along up top. I'm getting a 6-8" fl. gar from snookn21. I bought a fish from him before and was very pleased.
Yes, because random YouTube videos are a reputable source of information... Expect that gar to become RTC food in no time at all at that size.
exactly.
this thread has already basically turned into the OP wanting to get validation for plans they are going to go forward with regardless of the reasonable advice being given.
at this point, i say go for it, get an FLG and raise it with an RTC and let the RTC make a meal of it. at least that will buy some time away from this thread moving along (and not forward) in such asinine fashion--
