i use a more course sand it dosent get into the filters and looks quite good...but it shows alot of poop.i got fine aquarium sand in biorb thats a pain in the crack to change filter pads...it all gets stuck use fine gravel!

Good find I am going to look into this. I think sand. But I have black gravel diffrent diameters in each tank so I can't say for sure until I actually set up a sand aquarium.
 
That black color quarts looks hot, I want to do sand but I'd prefer a dark color.
 
Natural gravel all the way. I've tried sand before...and it would be great for some cichlids, but I keep the large diggers. So for me, it would be a nightmare to deal with while doing maintenance. Ever see the piles of gravel that haitiensis, midas, festae, etc make within minutes of a gravel cleaning? Now imagine dealing with it if it were sand? No thanks!
