I know length is a little better but depth is better that very tall tanks unless you are keeping very tall fish.

I'm sorry man but I know ur learning and have come along way but a wide 4 foot tank is a waste to most cichlids keepers. They don't allow u too keep bigger fish really. U can't keep a dovii or aro and stuff in them. Cichlids and other big fish need length, then the big big guys need both.

I have a pair of cichlids in a 75 and although it suits them well I want them to have a longer tank.

I'd like a shoal of RBP but they are illegal here:( I'm thinking a few discus with a school of Cory's and/or loaches and 3 schools of 15? of some smaller tetra ex. Cardinal, black neon, rummynose. (I'd like them to mainly stay with their same species if that's possible). Not sure what a good stocking combination would be. Several plants don't know if I can do fully planted never had much luck with plants (probably lighting) and some drift wood. What's a good stocking combo and back to the topic 120 or 125?

If I were you I would do a sa and ca cichlid commnunity(the larger and roudier guys, this dosn't include discus.)

for discus and a bunch of smaller fish a 6 foot 125 would be good beacause the fish will be pretty small and won't even need the 18 inches in a 125.

If that is the case, i would possibly choose the 125 then, the effect of fish swimming across that length could be quite stunning if you take your time and create a nice aquascape...
