I was wondering which type of pellets would be best for my juvie jag. I know hikari makes a lot of different kinds and ive been using cichlid gold so far but i was wondering is there other pellets that would be better for my fish?

You can use New Life Spectrum as a combination. Hikari cichlid gold is already good though.

I agree, also the omega one(as already mentioned) is good.

Omega one is the best but its pretty expensive
New Life Specturm is the second best and a great price on the 5lb. bucket online
Third would be hikari, readily available and the cheapest at your LFS but not as good as either of the above mentioned.

most of the other brands are junk (wardley, HBH, tetra)

but the best diet is to vary it, various pellets, flakes, frozen meats, and vegetables.

I'm interested in how everyone comes to the conclusion that a certain pellet is better than another.

I use NLS.

its not difficult to figure out. Mainly it depends on the ingridents, most of the junk brands use a bunch of filler ingredients which aren't very nutritous for your fish. Certain foods can bring out color, others will cloud your water, fish won't eat some, some of them will constipate your fish, some are good for growth, some can even condition your fish for breeding and etc...

Omega one, NLS, and hikari are good in all of the categories but overall some of them perform better than others. You can usually tell how good a food is by the price of it. Theres literally thousands of reasons.

No, no..... I know the reasons. It was rhetorical. It just seems that not everyone is quite so logical in their choice!

Based on ingredients and the needs of the fish NLS is slightly better than Omega, and both are MUCH better than just about everything else.
