Which is most likely to get along with angels?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Then try the Argentea, at least it has the smallest mouth. Who knows it could work. I love Angel fish, but really only the natural looking type no gold koi or marble blue veil tail nonsense. I like'm the way the big guy made'm.

None of the fish you currently have will go with Angels.

An Angel pair will be nice in a 75g. Add Keholes, and/or Apistos, or dwarf acaras. Shoal of Cories and school of Tetras.

yeah i agree with you there nero, thats why i am thinking i want to go with some wild scalares from snookin21, they look great and are already nice and big and look how angels are supposed to IMO. and yeah i guess the arg would probably do less damage if he had a bad day or something, i also still plan on having the tiger barbs in there as well so that might help distract any aggression that might arise

oh and montess, i dont really have the money to set up an entirely new tank right now, thats actually what i was wanting to do is set-up a tank around the angels but right now i need to stick with just this tank

For a little bit, I was actually considering getting rid of my blue gene Dempseys and getting some Angel's to go with my EBJD. I just don't know if I can part with them since I've raised them from fry basically. I personally would hold off until you had the money to add a new tank and stick with what you have. As mentioned, sometimes taking 1 apple off the cart can mess the whole thing up. If it's good the way it is, you could stick with it and if it changes later you could always switch over then.

Tiger barbs will nip the trailing fins on your angelfish. I've seen a lot of people do that.

Angels are no slouches, especially wild ones, and will be very aggressive amongst themselves. I got 12 wild scalare a few years back and they slowly killed each other off until I only had about 4 left. I tried large tanks, small tanks, species-only, community setups, bare-bottom, decorated... nothing kept them from hunting each other down and attacking.

Several of the local stores I've been to here keep larger angels in their cichlid communities with severums, oscars, chocolates, etc. I currently have some wild scalare in with my psittacus, notatus, Krobia, and chocolate cichlid. They're fine together.

My suggestion is to quarantine the angels for a few weeks until they're fiesty and eating well, then just try it. You may be surprised. Watch them for a bit, and if it starts to get heated, just move them again and find a more peaceful SA to keep them with.

thanks yeah i was hoping that as long as they were adults that it would be ok as long as i watched really closely, i plan to eventually have a tank dedicated to angels and discus, it just isnt in the cards right now, but yeah i thought of that about the barbs, but thought that if i had a large enough school that they would be ok as they would leave the larger cichlids alone but angels are slower so yeah they may pick on the angels, if there another larger tetra that is commonly available that would get along with them and still stand a chance with the argentea, preferably something south american because if i do change my stock and it doesnt work out with the argentea i plan on going completely south american with my tank.

also i think i am going to go and get a couple angels from the petstore and grow them out and try them first before trying with the wild ones, and yeah any new fish i would get would definitely be quarantined first for me to make sure its healthy and eating well

In my experience individual fish tend to ignore angels completely. My pikes ignore them as well as my EBJD, Geos, and they had a 4 day stint in my jags tank and he ignored them after playing a lil game of chase for a few hours.

i bought 8 to go in with my midas, 4 koi and 4 black. the koi were quite aggressive but the black ones kept getting torn up by the koi. in the end i just separated the 2 groups.
even getting them at the same size and at the same time is no guarantee that they will get along. generally, they arent the weaklings they seem to have a reputation for.
if going in with a larger fish and it charges around the tank, i found that angels arent fast enough to get out the way like say firemouths or convicts are. there is a chance they could get damaged and thats why i gave my koi ones away today because my midas keeps "enjoying" the size of the new tank and the angels couldnt get out the way.

About three weeks ago I had a small female Trimac that was getting picked on buy the others in the grow out tank. i didn't want to loose her but had no place to put her @ 1.75" I put her in with my angel fish thinking for a couple of days while I figured what to do it woud be no harm as she is a lot smaller than the angels who can get pretty mean when they want to. I was actually worried about her in that tank too. When I came home from work she destroyed one of my males skinned and finned. so back to her fate in the growout tank she went. Anybody want any Trimacs? Anybody?
