which large(ish) SA center piece fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A H. psiitacus would work in there. Your tank is big enough. I happen to have an extra male, about 12" if you're interested. And I'm in Winnipeg.

very. is that him? beautiful colour on him. do you think he'd try to eat either my l091's (about 2") or my other smaller fishes?

yes yes, that Oscar is very nice, especially the light stripes on the body and the orange trim on the caudal fin. but back on topic. will my smaller fishes (corys, diamond tetra and small plecs) become dinner to a h psittacus?

Quite likely.

My psittacus at 12" killed and attempted to eat (before I removed them) two 4" male A. multispinosus. I thought he might ignore them since he usually just pushed around my larger cichlids, but the second they went into the tank he targeted them and destroyed them before I could find a long enough net to get them back out. Then he went after a 6" Saxatilis pike that I added later. The pike hid under my driftwood for two days while the psittacus sat about 2" away and waited. I'd say there's an almost 100% chance he'll eat tetras, cories, and anything else he can get in his mouth.

Yea I was guessing as much. Obviously I'll have to pull them all out, it sounds like I might want to pull the smaller geos as well, they sub adults are all around 3.5-4". Looks like I'm going to be reorganizing a lot of fish. Yikes.

You have what, 170 gallons? You have more than enough room for an Oscar.
