I have already 2 ornates. I love both of them, but they are very very shy. The big male one is always hiding under some wood and comes only when he smells food. And even then very frightened. His smaller female companion appears more often but also rarely. Most of the time the tank looks empty and just filled with plants and wood.

I had a large senegalus in there who was a very active swimmer. Unfortunatelly he got eaten from the big ornate. So i wonder would an delhezi or endlicheri an option?

my delhezi always showed himself swimming around in the open quite often but my ornate was like yours,i think they are shy until they get big,my lapradei was always out too and not at all shy

I have an 18in ornate and he has to be the shyest poly i have, the most active and open swimming would be one of my ansorgii, but I think its just a case by case thing.I also find that haveing dim lighting has help 100 folds lol

My anosrgiis never hide they just look at me waiting for food 24/7 but endlis are pretty out in the open to. I do not have ornates so i am not too sure but from what you guys say I will not be getting one i like too see them not have them hid. But darius i like you SH set up.

Yeah. My delhezi swim nonstop. I do really want an ornate though.
