which large polypterus species shows itself more open?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a 20''+ Teugulsi and it is my most active poly. Pretty expensive though. Ornate are somewhat active, but from my experience Endli are pretty much logs and quite boring. imo I do not keep ornate anymore because in my experience when they got over 16'' they would turn aggressive, and fin nip.The palmas palmas is by far the worst if you ask me, they almost never come out for anything but food if you have any kind of decor. I have kept all upper jaw specimens except weeksi and polli and for active you are best off with Teugulsi, Ornate, and Delhezi. The rest are quite shy., retro isn't too bad I guess, they are pretty active. All grew slower than ornate, but Teugulsi was the closest in growth rate. If you have any questions shoot me a pm, I have had my Teugulsi for 3 years now, such a sweet fish. I suggest not removing decor to help them feel secure, and happy.
Used to be on mfk all the time, but got bored of seeing the same things after convictbreeder left. lol I like dustinsfishtanks on youtube, more entertaining. But I keep a planted tank, and in another I have 9 or so upper jaw bichirs with 2 leaf fish and a beautiful orange severum, that is her and my teugulsi in my avatar from quite a while back at least a year.

i have 4 bichers and id say my ornate is the second most active...my polli is by far the most active...i dont think she stops EVER...my ornate is cruising around probably 3/4ths the time as is my sen...my del has had a few problems since i got her a few months ago... super skinny and not that active but shes slowly perking up...the polli is about 8 inches and my ornate and sen is about 6 inches and the del is about 5

I have an 18in ornate and he has to be the shyest poly i have, the most active and open swimming would be one of my ansorgii, but I think its just a case by case thing.I also find that haveing dim lighting has help 100 folds lol

I have two Dels, one is always out and one is always hiding. I agree with Mike, it's a case by case thing...

I arrange my hiding spots so no matter what I can see where anything is if I need to. I don't mind if they aren't active, just as long as i can see them.

I currently keep 3 polys, and there is a large piece of dw in tank that none seem to use for hiding anymore. All are 14-16 inch
