which large polypterus species shows itself more open?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congicus.
All 4 of my 5 were very active, but 1 was VERY shy.
In general the bigger lower jaws are the least shy.
Having said that they can become very lazy. Shy no, active not always haha!

My 65cm+ Endli used to just lay there like a log most of the day till dinner time where she would get messy!

i think maybe you have too many hiding spaces. in my old tank i had tons and i'd usually never see my polys, now in my new tank i have less hiding places (still have some tho) but i see my polys out more and they are also more active (good thing right?) so i think having them get use to being in the open is something to consider too even if it's sorta forced..

My ornate has been through several diff tanks and tank mates. His behavior changes with each one. His new tank seems to have reinvigorated him. He's cruising the tank all the time. He perked up in his last one but the new 300 gallon he's in seems to have really made him more outgoing.

Well i just send a mail to my lfs what he thinks. He has very nice endlicheri at the moment and also delhezi. Thing is i need big ones, since my big ornate is extremly carnivorous. I never had a poly who acted in such a way. He ate a senegal which had 2/3 of his own bodysize.

Try moving the decos in the tank. My ornate too used to hide all the time, till I took out the driftwoods to wash and rearrange them.
Now it is out like most of the time, swimming with my delhezi.

Sounds like an idea. I think ornates really have some issues and are pretty shy in general. It´s amazing that so much of you guys have the same problem.
