Yes oscars are cool and they make good wet pets but personally I think they are ugly and they are just flat out pigs and gross.
Mannys are in my top 5 favorite cichlids after owning thousands of them literally thousands and raising them they are the coolest cichlid out there no doubt. I just cant get enough of them. definately the better choice. they look ALOT better, they can be extremely aggressive or very docile.

By human standards: Oscars. They're gluttonous, greedy and opportunistic. Total capitalists. But I find their behavior resembles Pavlov's dogs more than anything else.

Yeah, Jags....., Dovii, or most any Parachromis, any Amphilophus. Don't get me wrong Oscars are up there but IMO they get labelled as intelligent just because they're driven by their stomachs. Their constant begging for food is a huge ego stroke for their owners. It makes them feed needed. But why is it that they'll eat anything? Why are they so easy to net? Why do they always think you're about to feed them every time they see you. These are endearing behaviors, no doubt, but signs of intelligence, I think not.

Oscars are like stupid hippies..they are messy, stink the tank up more than regular fish, naive and think everything is just groovy and cool because they arent smart enough to see things how they really are. They are the epitome of the term "Ignorance is bliss".
