Which Solitary bad ass would you keep?

Umbees and dovii should not be considered I think they just get too big for that size tank. I have kept midas and cubans and loved them both. The type of midas you are looking for are called cremsicle. If you go cubans I would go for a pair in that size tank or even a pair of midas. Both fish are aggressive and full of personality. Here are some pics of my old pairs of midas and cubans.

Cubans don't have to be a solo 'wet pet' depending on tank size and such, although I think the haitiensis look better

whatever you do don't get the butti, loses colour and can't get rid of it. if it kills any other fish later on you will not forgive it. it has no redeeming factors whatsoever. common, nasty and worse than ugly-DULL looks
if you are certain it will be a one fish only-think this through because however amazing one fish is, it can't compete with a community of adult healthy centrals but remember com. willbe hard fustrating work and in need of extra tanks and dividers untill you have the right fish-then there is only 3 options. dovii, umbee or black nasty. MALES only. rest are just fodder and you will have regrets.
the only other option is a male and female festa. male will give you brute and female will give you salt water colours and personality.
also increase your budget and try to get the biggest healthy adults you can. small ones take far to long to grow. one doesn't have a 7ft tank for baby fish, its like getting a 32 inch tv when one wants a 80 inch.
7ft tank is alot of work one has to feel the work is worth it.
