which to get

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
scott mentioned they come from pretty cold waters, i think when collected in the 50s. i plan on keeping it with my gymnos when they get larger.

good. scott said he was on feeders and market shrimp. i wont be using feeders so it looks like i'll be getting some shrimp tonight. im surprised he turned down bloodworms, may have been stressed. i got him in 75degrees and this morning he was very interested in seeing me. you think i should bump the temps till the ick is gone?

All the group of punctata I sent to Scott took bloodworms and pellets (=correct word?).

i tried pellets(yes correct word :)) again today with no luck. he ate a piece of krill and ill try bloodworms again. he said they were eating bloodworms, black worms, shrimp, and small feeders

Don't worry, all of the wild Uruguayan pikes I have kept were all fairly (really) easy to convert to pellets. Punctata (I had 3 from 33 - the blue one) was VERY quick to go to pellets, the guy I got them from isn't terribly keen on live or frozen food, they went from his luggage to the tanks and were only offered pellets - no problem! Give him/her a hide or something to make comfortable and once it's settled, it'll start eating anything you offer it!

just a little update. i've been doing 50% waterchanges everyday, bumped the temps to 81-81F and it seems the ick is clearing up. he's starting to become more active and eating pellets, bloodworms and FD krill. im probably going to keep him in the 20g till the end of october since once of the gymnos would prolly become a snack for him

Glad things are going better for ya mate. It seems that pikes do better when grown out in smaller tanks anyway, so I would keep him in there till mid-November even. Make sure he is eating good and stable.

I think he is going to out grow the gymnos no matter what you do. Unless you buy them almost as adults. Punctata have HUGE mouths. LoL

yeah. he's already bigger but only one could really fit in its mouth and that's the only one im worried about. i'll keep some egg crate handy :D

It's True. . . :D Felipe's tanks have the most diverse stock from the same area that I have ever seen - if it's in Uruguay, he probably has it!
