Need some help making a decision here. 300 gallon community with 5 cichlids( 8"Midas,5" Festae,6" Freddy,6" Dempsey,4" Con) 5 silver dollars and 5 medium sized plecos. Tank has been extremely peaceful over the last few months so we're are thinking of adding a male Vieja to the tank. I'm so torn between a maculicauda and zonatus. Argentea are really cool too.breeding is not in the immediate future, but it's always up for consideration depending on the fish. Only 2 of the 5 are males...Midas and the JD. Jd runs the show both both are pretty easygoing in general. I have more issues with the females than the males usually.....I would have made it a poll, but I'm more interested in peoples experiences with their Vieja than a number. Personality plays a part in the decision as well as looks. The fish in this tank are in our main living area so they are exposed to a lot of interaction with us and our dogs....thanks in advance!

redheads are among my favorite in the veja species. I had a 12 incher and 9 incher. Both male and more personality than any other fish i had or currently own.

I dont think that you can go wrong with any of them. Argentea, melanurus, regani, bifasciatus, zonatus. Though some of these are now Paratheraps, it all depends on what you want in the way of aggression. The Zo's, argentea and black belt can be little devils the bifa is next, and the regani then the melanurus or synspilum.

Down to individual preference, plus with synspilums there are different races that have different colours so its interesting to see which you will get

Those are some great looking redheads Aqua!!

All such beautiful fish. Aquamojo has some Zonatus pics that are just crazy looking. Blackbelts have been on my list too....

Thanks for the input guys! Any in particular to stay away from in a community?

I have all of them in a community right now. The zo is at the top, then the blk belt, argentea, bifa, syns.

I bet that's a cool looking tank.....

Vieja Argentea(White Cichlid).

They are beautiful, smart, and are not "OVERLY AGGRESSIVE".
I find them absolutely spectacular fish to own.
Not my photo's but look how cool looking they are.

Looks like the Rio Tulija strain that Gage has right now. They're really cheap too, like $60 for a 7"+ wild caught fish. Really tempting but I'm done with argentea for now.
