Hello,

i had seen tanks to keep bichirs of different types - so i'm interested in the diverent ways of keeping bichirs.
My way is a jungle-type tank ...

cool, but do you ever see them? I keep mine in sandy plains with rocky caves

I tried the nice substrate with plants and aquascaping n all that - now I caved n I have bare bottom, no deco tanks. Seems like the fish have more room and it's easier for viewing. No places for uneaten food to get stuck and disappear either. But that's just me :) If I had to money to spend on a really nice lighting system, I'd have them all decked out n gorgeous, but not just yet ;)

yeah, uwe, i too am wondering how often you see your polys.

wow.
thats a very nice setup.
i used to keep them in a tank like yours except the plants were replaced with decor.
but now i keep them in a rocky plain setup with a small area with plants and rocks stacked up.
but they keep pushign everything around and the tank gets real messy.
especially since i use very little substrate.
i'll try to find a pic.

Hello,

i can watch my bichirs often in every part of the tank - also at the surface and lying on the plants. The advantages of this rich planted tank are good water condition over a long period (without water change), well coloured and less shy bichirs and an overall nice appearance ... almost a continuation of our garden behind the wall.
In my opinion this type of tank makes less work than a plantless tank.

Hello,

i have forgotten something ... my bichirs are very active, day and night!

Such a plant tank isn't a over-night project. I had bought only 4 little plants, the tank looked very plain to this time - after 5 months i got this appearance. The bichirs had produced many nutriments, so the plants could grow this way (now i have too much of them, a nice present for other fish-keepers).
It was interesting for me to see also the activities of the bichirs grow with the plants ... i will not miss them (both bichirs and plants).

Greetings

Uwe
