Which way do you keep your bichirs?

I use small gravel and lots of driftwood for my polypterus.

I keep mine on sand, no deco. Honestly I think the polys are probably happiest in a densely planted tank...but no freaking thanks to the extra headaches of plants...

Amazing tank. Do you do anything with the plant.
I just started a planted poly tank today here it is.
Once the plants grow and will have 1 more peice of driftwood.(Still soaking)

nope just stuck them in and got lucky so far. All of the smaller plants in the foreground are offshoots from the ones in the back. I just try to keep the dead leaves removed.

How long did it take to get to that stage?
 
this is mine, i plan on getting a little del but nowhere around me has one in stock.
