2 265 both are large enough for big fish and 2 species/ecosystems

2 265s, Id rather have 2 completely different setups than deal with the headache of only 1 tank and being limited in what I keep

I think it's funny, their reasons for wanting the two smaller tanks are the same as mine for wanting the bigger one. my 245G won't hold the bigger fish I'd like, and one tank is twice as easy to care for as two.
 
+1 for the fish that I keep it would make more sense. I guess it really just depends on what fish you plan to keep.

Not always. You could link the 2 tanks to the one sump. ruffly the same surface area to clean also. I think it would be more for people keeping large aggressive fish.
