definitely. im not a cichlid guy but i do hear dan's name a lot and know he is a reputable source. but based on what Mo said in talking to Dan, i wouldnt count on these guys being a "true" white color all the time:

now the variant that LOPAKA has (not sure exactly where in mexico these come from), this guy is WHITE all the time. everytime i go see it the fish looks white, with a hint of blue/green.

anywho, theyre both awesome. and its good to see these rare variants in the hobby :)

Cool. Thanks for the info! if thats the case, I agree and definitely dont think its the same as Lopakas variant then.

Im glad you posted that quote.

Here's a picture of the "white" beani Joe collected and brought back from Rio San Pedro in Nayarit when it was around 6". I sold it to Lopaka at the SOCAL meet. I posted these for comparison with the beani from Rio Panuco.

^ crazy how much he changed in a few months.

same fish:

He may be stressed, being out of water. That would cause the different look. Hard to compare a fish in water, that is comfortable, to one that has been netted and held out of water.

come on man, really? ive seen that fish in his tank for months since he was brought home. never again did he show those stripes.

here's a pic with crappy lighting in his tank, before we netted it and "stressed" him out

These pictures look very similiar to Dan's to me. Plus Dan's look to be a pretty young pair from the pictures. If the one you sold changed that much who's to say the ones from Dan won't end up looking very similiar? Only time will tell though. They all look nice to me.

I have 8 of the little guys from Dan. He was friendly and answered all my questions. Even sent 8 when I paid for 6. They seem pretty hardy. Had them for several weeks now. Time will tell how they turn out as adults, they should be nice though. Maybe not as nice as the Rio San Pedro but we all can't have one of those guys.

c'mon fellas are you serious ?? :screwy: how many ppl do you want to involve in this debate. If you talk to Joe personally the pics of the fish now looks like he did when he was collected first hand in the wild. On a side note look very closely @ Gani's pics and you can see the sea green color in his fins there as well. Bottom line this fish is hands down one of the most facinating and handsome beani out there !!!! They will be bred and they will be available to all those who seek them but for now this hansome fella remains the last king standing ;)...........

The big ones we caught upriver were beautiful with lots of white almost like a an emarald/platinum color like in jcardonas last pic of the blanco out of water. Stunning beani, and again for me is the most beautiful of all beani, in markings and color...hands down.

Those other "white" beani are nice, but I must agree, color and pattern wise, they do NOT stand up the Blancos! And I have to say, that the 4 adults I caught had some size to them about 5-6" and they were alreaduy showing that turquoise/white color almost like a emarald-platinum color with lots of "honycomb" pattern...lots of it!

i dont know much about beani, but i really dont think these guys will look alike, they come from completely different sources. i didnt know where the rivers in mexico were located, so i found this map, i think theres a slim chance these guys are the same variation.

as for the labels of "white", "blanco" etc. that just causes confusion. we need to refer to them where they come from rio san pedro, or panuco. let the "white" color be assessed by the beholder ;)
