i dont know much about beani, but i really dont think these guys will look alike, they come from completely different sources. i didnt know where the rivers in mexico were located, so i found this map, i think theres a slim chance these guys are the same variation.

as for the labels of "white", "blanco" etc. that just causes confusion. we need to refer to them where they come from rio san pedro, or panuco. let the "white" color be assessed by the beholder ;)

Sorry but that is not the same Panuco river my H. beani originated. The river shown on your map is where all the H. labridens forms, some H. carpintus and H. pantostictum originate, among others. The Rio Panuco where my fish originated is on the west coast. Dan

hmm intersting. i remember reading in a thread where somebody mentioned the panuco was on the west coast, but this was all i could find. how close is this river to the san pedro?

I looked up H. beani in the book "Freshwater Fishes of México" by Robert Rush Miller, he listed them as being found in the Río Presidio.

The Pánuco is just one drainage south of the Presidio. The Pánuco is a tributary of the Baluarte. A dam on the Pánuco forms the Presa Tortuga reservoir. It is located about 50 miles East of Mazatlán.

The San Pedro Mezquital is two drainages further to the Southeast (drainages tend to run North-South here).

I tried to take a photo of a page out of my Mexican road atlas, but it didn't turn out all that great.
