I'm in search of white sand for my 300 gallon tank and had read that pool filter sand from home depot was white.

I was unable to find the "Pool Filter Sand" but did see the "Play sand" which was not white.

I did however find some "#30 silica sand" which looked white in the store. Once I got it home and cleaned though it turns a light whitish beige when wet. Not a bad look and perfectly suited for my 37 and any other tanks I may set up. But not the true white I was looking for.

Anyone have any ideas on good sources for white sand.

Snapped a quick pic. It's a light tan. Should should lighter under brighter lights.

CaribSea makes some white sand. It is available at a lot of LFS, but it is way more expensive than pool filter sand. It will probably be around $1/pound.

I am pretty sure Zoo Med make some too. It is for reptiles. I am sure it would work fine in an aquarium.

I'd need in the neighborhood of 250-300 pounds for my big tank. So thats a bit.... well a TON more then I'd like to spend on sand.

Could you use crushed coral or would your take inhabitants not like it?

Home Depot: Quicrete "media sand" (brown bag, green writting/label) $7.99 per 100 lbs bag ;) 100% fish safe and PH inert. A little on the fine side but that might be a good thing depending on your stock.

I can buy 3 bags locally and hang on to them until your down in my area next?
