:irked: damn it, i saw one at petsmart, looked just like that, and I thought, nah could never be a platinum. never. grrrrrr...........

At my local fish store, they have albinos ( white with red eyes) I will try to take some pics of them. They sell them for 20 ea. I want one but my ten inch oscar will eat it. I wish i had a grow out tank but i just sold my 2 75g.

I see albinos all the time, other than at petmart it seems more often than regular senegals. My petsmart doesn't sell albinos. This guy doesn't have red eyes and isn't that yellow color, it is just like a regular senegal only snowy white. lol

Sweet find:headbang2,ive never seen a plat or an albino round here:(
whats the difference between the two?

cheers steve

A couple more pics, I don't know if platinum still have the black speckles on the back, as I have never owned one, but mine has them. I don't know how a fish even gets to be platinum, I think it is just a white senegal, the pics are taken to make the fish look dark, I wanted to try and show the dots on the back the best I could no photo tricks. lol Mine is whiter than fish33's that he posted, his looks a little more of a milky color.
Here are a couple more pictures as requested.

I may have to take back what I said before.

It's not a platinum aka leusistic sene. Just a regular stress colored sene. It will darken up as time pass by. I see brown shades.

Just like other species. Color can varied from darker to lighter color. I have a light color weeksii and delhezi and also a dark color weeksii and delhezi.

i doubt its THAT stressed. nice find, what luck. Im running to my petsmart :D:D

Maybe, only time will tell. I have owned my share of senegals and never saw a white one stressed or not. lol Like I said in my last post I made my settings on the camera darker so people could see the speckles on the back they wouldn't show up because the white was to shinny. It is not brown at all, I made it darker. The last picture is what it looks like under regular t5. Those pictures were taken the next day and he had all night to settle in and still looks the same.
There is no shading between the belly and the upper body, it is all the same milky white color. Still a good deal even if it is just regular.

Yeah i don't think its platinum either. I bought 2 from petsmart a while back that look just like that just a light variant to me its really more tan than white.

Plat have just enough color in their genes to make their eyes black, albino have no color pigments at all; making their eyes red. My senegal still has not got any darker, not even tan and I have the ecobrown chipped substrate and it is pretty dark colored. I don't know what mine is and isn't, but it is really cool and I'm glad I got him he is a really cool fish. It shines under my lights, my friends think it is pretty neat.
