If it working it's working. I have never had much faith in either product. Do I see a litthe red at the base of the pectoral fin in the bottom pic?

I would discontinue the MG/3X sulfa. While it didn't work, it may have provided hints as to what this may be and how to attack it. The same way dropsy is an external manifestation of and internal issue. I think this may be some combination of both. I was doing some reading about this and while there isn't a great deal of information reguarding specific issues as they relate to gars I think this should be attacked on two fronts. I'm looking at a combination treatment using Kanamycin and Metronidazole. Kanamycin treats several fungal and bacterial diseases which includes Dropsy, Popeye, tail rot, septicemia and flexibacter because it is very well absorbed it is very affective in treating both internal and external bacterial and fungal infections. Metronidazole is effective and safe treatment for several protozoan and anaerobic bacterial diseases. They are safly used together and provide very effective broad spectrum coverage for a combination of bacterial, fungal and protozoan based diseases.

I have some meteonidazole in the form of tetra psrasite gard tablets but not sure where or what to finde kanamycin in as I don't have a lfs only petsmart. Where should I find this or should I order out on line.

Kanamycin is usually only found at a well stocked LFS I've never seen it at a chain store. On line might be your best option. If you are going to order on line you might as well order straight Metro too.

So this is what he looks like after a couple of days with the tetra parasite giard. What do youbthink? I think he looks beter. But he has gone back and forth in the past. He is still very active and has a huge appetite. Eats a ton of baby cichlids I farmed up for them and still lokes those frozen fuzzy mice and also raw shrimp.

I will say it doesn't look any worse and does appear a little better. Follow the full course of treatment. It may be possibile to need a second coruse if it looks like it got job done. Good luck and please keep us updated on the progress I want to know how this ends.. See if you can find Kanamycin just in case it will not hurt to have it on hand.

Gar appears to be getting better. I was tired of waiting for the seccondary infection to go away so I sucked the small white fuzzy patches off of him earlier while I was doing a water change on his tank. He looks a lot better today. Here are some pictures.

He looks a lot better today. I have to give you credit for sticking with this, you're doing a great job treating and caring for this fish. Please keep the up dates comming, I'm pulling for a full recovery and this thread will help others in the future.

Here is an update, I went through another round of medicating with all tje medications I have used because it lookid like it had moved to a new spot on his back. It worked and now he is out of the hospital tank and back in his tank with the other gar. I must say they were happy to see each other. Here is a picture of him today.
