White Spots on Rays..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Another thing you may want to do if you can is pull some filter media from another established filter and put it in the sump for your rays. From my experience biozyme and all those other beneficial bacteria starters are worthless. They don't seem to speed up your bio whatsoever. Now days I always keep extra bags of media in sumps for start up. Comes in handy

Not good. Rays produce 10× more ammonia than any other fish the same size. Worst part is they are super sensitive to ammonia. Probably the best thing to do is use some seachem prime. It will neutralize the ammonia, but won't slow your bio down. Will still read on the test but won't be harmful. Ammonia is a ray killer

Hey it's definitely a heater burn. Check out my post on fungus as I thought it could be that but it turned out to be Heater burn. The skin will start to peel. My advice 30% water changes every 2 days and put some salt in the tank. Don't use any chemicals and try to keep the ammonia at zero. Good luck. I didn't think that the heater would burn my ray but I learned the hard way that it will

Yes.

I wouldn't worry about it now. More important is get the ammonia level down.

I think I would disagree with this. White bumps is definitely a sign of some sort of irritation. A symptom of something.

Symptom of what? We don't know. I have seen these bumps on my rays before, and it has never been an issue. I'm sure there are some other threads about the same thing from years past.
If you look closely at the pictures in the top of this thread, most of the bumps are uniform in size and shape. They seem to be more prevalent in younger, smaller rays.

Your right...sometimes pups have those for no apparent reason...still gotta cover the basics, and a good thing we did, he had ammonia trouble and an exposed heater in the tank!

My marble pup had those bumps and so did my 14 inch marble. I just think that it is a reaction to something or a change.

My pups and rays get these from time to time. Wish I knew what it was from. Possibly stress, or maybe something to do with their slimecoat production. A reaction to less than perfect water quality. I used to always freak out. Now I don't pay it much mind.
