Where did you find this info? I would like to know what you based it on. I think bloodworms are very nutritious and a good food for smaller fish.

White poo is internal parasites. Not a symtom of hole in the head

I agree. I actually lost a juvie Sal to this over the summer. She was bloated for a little over a week and I couldn't save her. I think it was stress from agression as she got cocky with some bigger cichlids and they cornered her. Agression problems in your set-up? Just a thought from my exp.

Good luck

Better Quarantine ASAP

You've only got to look on the pack to see the nutritonal value. Compare it to the values of good quality flake and pellets and you'll see there's nothing in it. Like modest man said its mainly water. You feed your cichlids just on this they will never bulkup or grow. You look at all the large quality discus, they are fed mainly on beef heart not blood worms. just offer it now and again.

As stated by others Fecies that is white and stringy is usually a sign of sickness, soon after it is followed by the fish not eating. You need to diagnose the problem and treat it as necessary before it gets to the not eating stage, because sometimes you can't recover them once they stop eating. It doesn't necessarily have to be internal, it could be something as simple as flukes, then the fish gets stressed, followed by stringy poo then not eating.

Also I agree, no nutritional value in bloodworms, do not use as a staple in diet.

Good info on the Bloodworms folks. I never knew that and have been feeding them as high protein food...will change it up now

Thanks!:headbang2

I had experience with this with BW. My Female GT who I got a little over 2 months ago died about 1.5 months after I got her and I was using BW as a staple for a week for protein booster and she got the white poo and eventually died even after switching her back to hikari. The parasite killed her. She was extremely awesome and I miss her very very much! R.I.P

Bloodworms are a treat for my fish- white stringy poo for fish can also be a sign of bloat (at least in African cichlids) and of course parasites. But sometimes by the time you see the white poo the damage is too severe for the fish to make it. Be sure and check out bloat info as you had your fish on a pretty rich diet of BW, I mean BW are great treat food- people (including ymself) feed em to condition fish for breeding =) > Hope yours are alright.

I agree. White stringy poo is usually indicative of internal parasites.

Why do some people at work catch colds while others around them stay healthy? There are many factors that can play a part. Genetics, diet, stress, etc. The other fish may have parasites as well and just aren't showing symptoms yet.

I have to agree with Modest_Man and ewok,I usually use Maracyn 2 when I suspect an internal infection. This antibiotic is strong and is sure to solve your problem! Here's a link to petsmart: http://petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753391&cp=2767036.2769129&view=all&pg=3&fbn=Taxonomy%7CMedications&fbc=1&clickid=topnav_dropdown4_link12&parentPage=family&keepsr=1

I'm sure you can find it at any of your local pet stores. Others might suggest something that they have used in the past that has worked for them, but like i mentioned this stuff works great.

Frozen blood worms are almost entirely water. 80% water by volume or so I think? Really not that great as a staple.
But the worms themselves are 54% protein (I calculated). Even high-protein pellets have maximum 50%.

There are no aggression issues in the tank. He's the dominant fish. I just fed my fish Tetra cichlid sticks and he ate a little. What do I do now? Isolate and treat him ASAP or do more water changes and vary the diet for a few days first? I'm asking this because he's much brighter in colour and more active today, and also eating more. Yesterday he was dark and hiding in his flowerpot almost all the time. I also haven't seen anymore white poo since yesterday. Could this be a minor one-off thing?
